The Brownstown Fire Department conducts Fire Prevention Programs throughout the year.  During Fire Prevention Week (usually the first week in October), the department visits several elementary and day care facilities within Brownstown to deliver important fire safety information to those children in the grades of K-3 and preschool.  These programs relay very important fire safety information that have shown to assist young children during real life emergencies.  Some of the information instilled in these young children is:

·  Don’t play with matches and lighters
            · Stop Drop and Roll
            · Call 911
            · Know your address
            · EDITH (exit drills in the home)

This program reaches approximately 1800 children during this week.  Sparky the Fire Dog is very helpful in getting the message out during these programs.

The fire department also conducts fire station tours and other fire prevention/education programs throughout the year to any group(s).   The department hosts a yearly open house at fire station 1 on Sibley Road on the Saturday of Fire Prevention Week which is held during the first week in October.
