Prevention/Inspection


The Brownstown Fire Department conducts Fire Inspections on commercial businesses and multiple family dwelling rental units year round.


The department also conducts site and construction plan reviews for new and/or  modified commercial, multi-family dwelling units and single family dwelling unit projects and subdivisions.


Inspections and plan reviews  are conducted by state certified fire inspectors using the adopted Michigan Building Code and the  International Fire Code.

The current Codes utilized in Brownstown  are the International Fire Code 2021 edition, Michigan Building Code 2015 as well as all referenced NFPA standards.  These codes are adopted by local ordinances


Most plan reviews will be conducted in 5-7 business days.  Hard copy submittals require a minimum of 3 copies of the design documents.  Electronic submittals in PDF format are preferred.  Electronic submittals shall be sent to                                                                 or by using our document upload feature located below
